North 500 why not start your trip in Spean Bridge. BBC Presenter Anne Lundon

Morning

Been reading a lot about the North 500 recently which wends its way around the top of Scotland but lets face it you need to get there first.
How about Spean Bridge as a first stop. Its at the end of a beautiful stretch of road the A86 which has great vistas (perhaps better than some of the North 500) and some lovely stretches of gentle curving road.

B&B Spean Bridge near Fort William

A simple enough scene but let me explain the details.
Freshly ironed cotton napkin, sugar in a bowl (not sticks),  fresh flowers (not plastic),  home made jam (not plastic packet),  pot of butter (not fiddly half foil packs),  home made marmalade, salt and pepper grinders (not shakers).

The Commando memorial Spean Bridge

Photograph of four of our guests visiting the Commando memorial this morning before setting out on the Great Glen Way.
Looks a bit dull but it was actually a very nice morning.

I am gluten free. Where can I stay near Fort William?

Let us know your dietary requirements and we will look after you. We have been running Distant Hills Guest House since 2006 so there is not much we have not seen.
As regards in-room snacks Crimbles are our gluten free choice (because we like them as well)

Gairlochy locks on the Caledonian canal

This is the swing bridge at Gairlochy which allows traffic to pass over the Caledonian Canal.  Its a very scenic area with locks,  moorings,  a pepper pot lighthouse and great views of Ben Nevis and the Nevis Range.  Great spot for a picnic at one of the numerous tables.

Always looking to improve our guest house in Spean Bridge

We are always looking for ways to improve our guest house for the benefit of guests. One such improvement this season is our Tencel mattress toppers which will soften the bed surface but because it's Tencel it should not make the bed too warm.

Sunshine in Spean Bridge, near Fort William

Lovely spell of weather here in Spean Bridge,  Lochaber.
First photo of the garden side of the house as the morning light breaks through the Birch wood.
Second photo of the stream at the side of the house with evening sun.
